Ready or not!
If God announced at this very moment: "Okay, people, I'm coming in 10 minutes. The world is over, time's up." I bet I know what all of God's people would be doing! "...Please forgive me Father, for all of my sin. I'm sorry I did this and I'm sorry I didn't do that...." It says in
1 Thessalonians 5:2
The truth is that we don't know when He's coming!
Are we more likely then to keep on doing what we know God does not want us to be doing because we have time to? Tomorrow I'll stop...next week... A sin is a sin, no matter how big or how small we think it is. Not doing what God wants us to do is a sin. Disobedience is sin. God clearly defines in His Word what we should be doing and what we should be refraining from. "Well, I didn't know..." is not going to help. God knows men's' hearts in the here and now! They are open and defenseless to the One with Whom we have to do. If you have the Holy Spirit in you, then you can feel His tug this way or that...helping you to know what is wrong and what is right. We go through this life one time, and then the judgement. That is when every man will stand before God and be held responsible for every work he has done on this earth. Self deceit will be a thing of the past. He already knows and judges the very thoughts and intent of the heart!
If you feel a compulsion toward something that you know is a sin and don't know how to stop, then throw yourself on the mercy seat. Be honest and acknowledge to God your weakness and frailty toward that sin. Helplessness is the best prerequisite toward a good prayer! Humble yourself under the Mighty Hand of God and tell Him you want His will for your life! No matter what that entails, you must understand and know in your heart of hearts that He wants the very best for you. God's yoke is easy and His burden is light. He does not ask us to do what we are unable to do. Through God all things are possible. He awaits with the Grace in the perfect proportion to your need. He is a God of mercy and loving-kindness.
Lord, please reveal to me the sin in my life. Help me to renounce all evil, confess my sin and turn toward You for forgiveness. Please take these evil desires from me. Please help me to turn away from _________. I repent for all of my sin, and ask for You to cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Fill me with the light of Your Spirit and drive out any dark thing within me. Thank you Father, I praise You Lord.
-in Jesus' Name, Amen.
